Tree Ordinance seminar offered Friday in Evansville
Because of the influx of people descending on the Evansville area to help clear trees damaged by last week’s ice storm, a Tree Ordinance Compliance Seminar will be held at 6 p.m. Friday in Room 301 of the Civic Center. The class is free. According to a news release from Larry Caplan, extension horticulture educator, it is against Evansville’s Tree Ordinance to prune or remove trees within the city limits of Evansville without a tree trimmer’s license. No license is required for crews or volunteers dealing with storm debris already on the ground. Tree workers caught working without a license can be fined from $300 to $1,000 per incident.
The class will concentrate on safety issues, proper pruning techniques, and the ins and outs of the ordinance. Workers who successfully complete the class will be licensed to work within the city.
All tree workers planning on attending must bring their proof of insurance (liability and workman’s compensation) with them.
The class is free, but those planning to attend should call either the Urban Forestry office at (812) 475-1426 or the Purdue Extension office at (812) 435-5287.
